Twitter rolls out tipping feature to all users, adds support for crypto tips

Twitter has announced that its tipping feature, now called Tips, is rolling out to everyone with more payment options to choose from, including crypto.

Tips is a feature that lets users add links to select third-party payment services to their Twitter profiles. In addition, the platform will enable users to send and receive tips using Bitcoin as part of its push to help users make money from the service.

Moreover, this tipping feature allows users to send tips to their favorite account, support an emerging creator for their tweets, help a small business owner, and the like.

Check out how it works below.

– Users will know that their account has turned on Tips if they see the tipping icon (money icon) next to the Follow button on the profile page.
– By tapping the icon, users will see a list of payment services or platforms that the account has enabled. The services available so far are as follows:

• Bandcamp
• Cash App
• Chipper
• Patreon
• Razorpay
• Wealthsimple Cash
• Venmo
• GoFundMe
• PicPay

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

– Once the users tap the service they want to use, they will be taken off Twitter to the selected app to send funds. According to Twitter, they take no cut from the tip.

Furthermore, besides the services currently enabled through Tips, people can also tip with Bitcoin using Strike – a payments application built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network that allows people to send and receive Bitcoin.

“We want everyone on Twitter to have access to pathways to get paid. Digital currencies that encourage more people to participate in the economy and help people send each other money across borders and with as little friction as possible – help us get there,” said Esther Crawford, Staff Product Manager of Twitter.

When users enable Tips on their profile, users can now also add their Bitcoin address. People can copy their address and paste it into a Bitcoin wallet of their choice to send a payment directly.

Note, however, that users must be at least 18 years old to request, receive, or send tips via Tips or anywhere on our platform.

Twitter’s Tips is rolling out to people on iOS first, followed by Android over the coming weeks.
