One of the awaited updates from the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC22) is the unveiling of the soon-to-be-released operating system of Apple called macOS Ventura.
The macOS Ventura will feature additional productivity tools, new Continuity features, and many more updates.
Stage Manager
The Stage Manager automatically organizes all open apps and windows so users can still see everything in one look while concentrating on their work. The Stage Manager enables users to quickly and easily switch between tasks. Grouping windows together is also possible, this works great if the user has a particular task that needs different apps.
Continuity Camera
This gives Mac users to use their iPhone as a webcam thanks to the Continuity Camera feature. When a user’s iPhone is nearby, Mac will spontaneously use the iPhone’s camera without the need of waking it up or selecting it.
The Continuity Camera also features the Center stage, Portrait Mode, and the new Studio Light which lights up a person’s face while dimming the background. One of the new shocking features is the Desk View, in which the Continuity Camera uses the Ultra-Wide camera of the iPhone. The Desk view will show an overhead view of the user’s desk and the user’s face itself.
Handoff
The Handoff feature is now available on FaceTime. This feature will allow users to start a FaceTime call on one (1) Apple device and the user can transfer the call to another Apple device seamlessly.
Shared Tab Groups
Safari now features a new way for users to browse together called ‘Shared Tab Groups’. This enables a group of people (friends, family, and colleagues) to share their favorite site in Safari and see who’s looking at it in real-time. Users can also create a list of bookmarks through a shared Start page, start message conversations, or do FaceTime call from Safari.
Improved Mail
Search has been upgraded so users can quickly find what they need like recent emails, contacts, documents, photos, and more, even right before typing. Scheduling email, and canceling the sending of email after hitting send are also added. If a person forgot to cc the recipient or forgot to add attachments, Mail can now intelligently detect it. Lastly, the user can set a reminder when to come back to a particular email for a certain date and time and the user will receive a suggestion notification to follow up on an email with no reply.
Improved Messages
A user can now edit or undo a freshly sent message mark a message as unread, or even recover accidentally deleted messages through Messages on Mac. A new collaboration feature has been added so when a user shares a file via Messages through share sheet or ‘drag and drop’, both people can choose to select either share a copy or collaborate.
Improved Spotlight
Mac’s search app called Spotlight had some revamped designs for easy navigation, added new features and Quick Look for previewing files.
The improved Spotlight enables users to search for images in their photo library, across the system, and on the web. Users can now also search for their images by using location, people, scenes, or objects. Lastly, Live Text feature is added so users can search for text inside pictures.
iCloud Shared Photo Library
The iCloud Shared Photo Library enables users to create a separate photo library and share it up to six (6) family members. Every user included in the Shared Photo Library has equal permissions to add, delete, edit, or favorite the shared photos and videos.
Passkeys
Passkeys is a next-generation credential that is designed to replace passwords. Passkeys are unique digital keys that are on a user’s device but never stored on a web server, it means hackers will have a hard time leaking it and they can’t trick users into sharing it with them.
Metal 3
This latest version gives us new features for a better gaming experience on Macs. MetalFX Upscaling is created to quickly render complex scenes by using less compute-intensive frames, and then apply resolution scaling and temporal anti-aliasing. Another feature is the Fast Resource Loading API which gives a direct path from storage to GPU to minimize wait time.
Other Features coming with macOS Ventura
Live Text which recognizes text in images now supports paused video frames and also Japanese and Korean text. The user can also lift a subject from an image and drop it into another app. The Visual Look Up has been improved to include animals, birds, insects, statues, and even more landmarks.
Weather and Clock apps and their features which are only for iPhones are not optimized for Mac.
Updated accessibility tools now include Live Captions for all audio content, Type to Speak on calls, Text Checker to support proofreading for VoiceOver users, and more.
System Preferences is now changed to System Settings with refreshed and a more friendly design for users.
Rapid Security Response has been added that works between normal updates so the device will be up to date without the need to reboot.
