Summary of improvements of the realme 7:
• Latest MediaTek Helio G95 processor
• Touch sampling rate at 120Hz
• Sony IMX682 sensor for the main rear camera
• Sony IMX682 front camera sensor
• Larger battery

In terms of processor, the realme 7 comes with the latest MediaTek Helio G95 processor with a maximum clock speed at 2.05GHz. Meanwhile, the predecessor realme 6 has the older MediaTek Helio G90T launched in 2019. The previous showcases MediaTek’s HyperEngine Game technology for longer gameplay, better picture quality, and reliable connectivity. Meanwhile, the realme 6 delivered a buttery performance in our review, most especially in running resource-intensive apps simultaneously and in mobile gaming with heavy graphics. The smartphones have the ARM Mali-G76 as its GPU. You may refer the benchmark comparison below for the realme smartphones. Based on the table, realme 7’s performance is almost the same as realme 6.

Benchmarks realme 7 realme 6
AnTuTu v8 292,963 290,161
Geekbench 5 512 (Single-core), 1,531 (Multi-core) 542 (Single-core), 1,708 (Multi-core), 2,041 (RenderScript)
PCMark Work 2.0 10,498 10,630
3DMark 2,657 (OpenGL), 2,507 (Vulkan) 2,551 (OpenGL), 2,602 (Vulkan)
AndroBench 519.05 MB/s (Seq Read), 202.31 MB/s (Seq. Write) 521.98 MB/s (Seq. Read), 208.43 MB/s (Seq. Write)

Both the realme 6 and the realme 7 have 6.5-inch FHD+ display with a refresh rate at 90Hz which provides smoother scrolling for multitasking. However, the realme 7 wins with an additional 180Hz touching sampling rate with makes it more responsive especially in mobile games. Both also have a punch-hole cutout that houses its front camera.

Although both are equipped with rear quad camera modules that sports 64MP main sensors, the realme 6 and the realme 7 differ in the brand of its main camera sensor and the resolution of its macro sensors. The former has the Samsung GW1 main and a higher 2MP macro sensors while the latter has the Sony IMX682 and an undetermined macro sensor. For the front camera, the realme 7 has the 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor while the realme 6 has a generic main sensor in the same resolution. Both rear cameras of the smartphones can record 4K videos at 30 fps and UIS video stabilization while its front can record slow-motion videos at 120 fps.

Both smartphones come in either 64GB or 128GB UFS 2.1 storage, microSD slots for storage expansion, and up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. However, the realme 7 has a higher minimum configuration at 6GB + 64GB compared to realme 6’s 4GB + 64GB. The realme 6, however, offers more variant with its 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB RAM. Locally, it is available in 4GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB. The realme 7 comes in its maximum configuration in the Philippines which is 8GB + 128GB.

As for the battery, the realme 7 trumps at 5,000mAh versus the realme 6’s 4,000mAh. Both have 30W wired fast charging. Based on our standard video loop tests for each smartphone on our reviews, the realme 6 got a total of 18 hours and 52 minutes of playback. Meanwhile, the realme 7 recorded a longer 25 hours and 6 minutes of playback. Both are tested with brightness set at 50%, volume set at 0% volume, and the airplane mode turned on.

Should you upgrade?

If you value having the latest chipset, a larger battery, the presence of touch sampling on display, a Sony sensor for its main camera, and a few extra camera and video features, then the realme 7 is worth spending for. However, if you just like a decent smartphone for mobile gaming and is willing to sacrifice some fancy camera features, large battery capacity, and touch sampling rate on display, then go for the realme 6. Both smartphones share the same display,  camera resolutions, connectivity features, and biometrics.

At PHP 11,990 for the 4GB + 128GB and PHP 13,990 for the 8GB + 128GB,  the realme 6 can be considered as one of the best value smartphones in the market. If you’re on a budget and willing to get a toned-down battery life and camera performance, then get the base configuration for the realme 6. Meanwhile, the realme 7 is available in 8GB + 128GB for PHP 14,990.
