Plants vs Undead and PVU token: Should you spend and play?

Previously, we featured blockchain games like the battle heavy CryptoBlades, or the relaxing farming simulator My Neighbor Alice; this time we spotted a title that may have you glancing twice—Plant vs. Undead. Yes, it does sport similarity to the beloved Plants vs. Zombies franchise, but with its own twists and turns. So is this something you should play and get into? Find out here as we give you a rundown of what Plant vs. Undead is and what its PVU tokens are all about.

Authors Note: The article presented leans to the informative side and not a financial guide. Most information gathered comes from the developer’s whitepaper and roadmaps.

What is Plant vs Undead?

Plant vs Undead (PVU) is a multiplayer tower defense game where the user’s plants, which are also NFTs, fight off waves of undead minions. The game is set in a world called Planet Plants, which was once a harmonious place for both animals and plants. But is now riddled with undead animals who were contaminated by a mysterious meteor.

Plants vs Undead is stated to be more like a global mobile game, made for everyone to enjoy, even if they have no prior knowledge about cryptocurrency. And to address the Elephant in the room, the game was indeed based on the successful game Plants vs Zombies, along with Baloons TD—targetting audiences who enjoy tower defense PVP gameplay.

How does it work?

Plants vs Undead uses the native currency called PVU token, yes what a surprise, which is mirrored as a BSC token—allowing token holders to play, invest, and also be part of the game. Do note that there is a fixed total of 300 million PVU tokens.

To quickly run through what the Binance Smart Chain is, it is a blockchain network built for running smart contract-based applications, making it easier, quicker, and more affordable for those who plan to invest in certain blockchain games—so in this case for PVU. Do note that BSC runs in parallel with the vanilla Binance chain, which gives users high transaction capacity from BC with the contract functionality of BSC.

The utilities of the tokens are as follows:
• In-game currency: PVU could be used in the marketplace for the purchase of items such as Seeds and Plants.
• Social feature: send PVU tokens in the chats with friends and exchange NFT assets
• Play to earn: It states that everyone can take part in all game modes, with each rewarding PVU differently

So far, the modes mentioned cover survival mode and multiplayer modes.

How to get started

Plants vs Undead is available to check out on their official website. Plus, they also included preview gameplay for those who want to try out and see what their survival mode would look like.

1. Download the digital wallet called MetaMask, and have it set up.
2. Players must have a Binance account to purchase USDT which can be converted to BNB.
3. Once BNB is available, connect it and transfer it to your MetaMask.
4. From MetaMask, your BNB coins can be swapped into PVU Tokens using PancakeSwap.
5. Head over to the official Plants vs Undead website and connect your MetaMask.

Note that in order to start farming, the player would need to have 5 PVU tokens which can be exchanged for 350 LE. At the time of writing, a single PVU Token is priced at PHP 667.47 (Back on August 2, 2021, a single PVU Token was priced at PHP 689.55).

How to play and earn

If you are familiar with tower defense games that require strategic planning and proper unit placement, you may find yourself at home with Plant vs Undead. On the other hand, if you are adept in tending to not only your plants but other people’s plants, this game will also sit well with you—a fun bonus if you love both. Check out its trailer below.

The game currently has only one mode, which is its farm mode. The presence of Farm mode is for players to make a profit from unused assets. Each player has access to five plant slots and one mother tree slot for free, and the reason why you can nurture said plants is so that they can be stronger when using them in the fight against the undead.

For now, let us focus on the Farm Mode. As mentioned before, players would need 5 PVU to get started; farming consists of planting your own seeds, watering your and other players’ farm, and then harvesting, which rewards the resource called LE or Light Energy. Light Energy is the resource that allows players to earn through conversion—so imagine getting paid after waiting a certain amount of time for your crops to fully grow. If you are curious as to how you can cash out, you basically convert your earned LE into PVU; as of the time of writing, the minimum amount of LE required to convert is 100, and that is equal to 1 PVU.

The end-goal for its farming mode is to accumulate enough LE to buy seeds that can be used in its eventual PVP and PVE survival modes. LE is a means to get new NFT plants which can be traded or used in the games ecosystem.

The website did allow players to test out its survival feature on their website, and if you are curious to try it out, click here. Basically, the objective is to go for as long as you can as the game busts out wave after wave of the undead. Once your mother tree’s health bar hits 0%, it is game over. According to their roadmap, the survival mode would be available by Q4 of 2021.

Should I get into it?

To give my honest opinion, the game sounds really fun. I for one am a huge fan of the Plant vs Zombie franchise and have that game close to my heart, so seeing a blockchain incorporate that manner into a game like this is really swell. Plus, you actually get to see what the developers have in store for the game with their downloadable trial run—extra points.

However, it isn’t all sunshine for Plant vs Undead, as of the time of writing, the platform is heavily under maintenance, having its own share of bugs, glitches, and hiccups. There is even the system called “Batch schedules” that assign players to a certain batch that has its designated time to play. A new update is coming soon that will fix plenty of bugs. Server upgrades are also on the way to accommodate more players.M ake sure to follow the game’s latest updates via Twitter, Facebook, or social media pages.

And again, do keep in mind that these types of games require real money, so if you want to dive into this, make sure you are ready to let that money go if things do go south. Do your research and keep yourself updated.

So there you have it, a rundown of this new quirky blockchain game entitled Plant vs Undead. What are your guys’ thoughts on this? Do you love Plant vs Zombies? Feel free to share them in the comments below.
