Douyin, also known as the Chinese version of TikTok has shared that they will be setting a time limit for Chinese users under the age of 14.
ByteDance’s blog post states that real-name authenticated users under the age of 14 will be able to use the app for only 40 minutes a day and cannot use it from 10 PM to 6 PM the next day.
Moreover, Douyin has recently implemented its ‘youth mode,’ which contains educational content such as science experiments, exhibitions in museums, historical video explainers, etc. This was done in hopes of igniting the children’s interest in certain fields covered by the videos presented.
Douyin is also encouraging parents to help their children complete real-name authentication and have their kids enter the youth mode, or to at least actively turn on youth mode when its window pops up.
In relation to this, the Chinese National Press and Publication Administration have issued a notice that restricts online games for children under 18 years with the objective to protect their physical and mental health. If you want to read more about this, click here.
