5 Free Drawing Software You Can Download

While we know Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are one of the better and known options to do all your illustration endeavors, a subscription can be pretty costly. So here, we’ll be providing you a list of drawing software that you can download for free!

MediBang

Medibang is a free digital drawing app that includes more than 1,000 types of tools: brushes, fonts, ready-made backgrounds, and other materials. If you’re a manga/comic artist, then this app is definitely perfect for you.

MediBang Paint is available on Windows, Mac OS X, Android, and iOS (iPhone & iPad). The app uses cloud saving allowing users to transfer their work between platforms easily.

GIMP

GIMP is by far one of the best open-source photo editing and free-form drawing programs that can help you create professional-quality tweaks and touches. It’s not as good as Photoshop, but it’s easy to explore and is good enough to create complex edits.

You can download GIMP here.

Krita

Krita has been in development for over ten years, offering a handful of common and innovative features to help the amateur and professional alike. Many of its highlighted features are its intuitive user interface (allows you to move dockers and panels the way you want), brush stabilizers, pop-up palette, brush engines, a resource manager (import brush and texture packs), and much more. You can also open PSD (Photoshop) files here.

FireAlpaca

Quite a unique name for a painting software, isn’t it? Fire Alpaca is highly recommended for the paint tool beginners, as mentioned from its website. It features a different set of brushes (a crisp stroke with pen and a soft-edged watercolor effect as the popular ones), speedy performance, several comic templates, and a 3D perspective. Additionally, it also comes with Onion Skin mode for animation.

MyPaint

MyPaint started in 2004 when its creator, Martin Renold, bought himself a Wacom tablet and noticed that the program he was using, which was Gimp at the time, would sometimes drop a stroke when scribbling too fast. Basically, it features a simple interface that allows you to set it to fullscreen mode, leaving you with just your brush and creativity, as well as a set of brushes that can emulate traditional media like charcoal, pencils, ink, or paint.
