AP to equip all visual journalists globally with Sony cameras

The Associated Press (AP) has partnered with Sony Electronics Inc. to provide its journalists from all around the world with Sony cameras.

The Associated Press, with journalists in 250 locations, in 100 countries, collectively take around 3,000 photos and 200 videos every day. By switching to Sony’s cameras and lenses, it will be easier for all AP video journalists and photographers to collaborate. They will also be able to share cameras and lenses to produce news reports unhindered by technical limitations.

AP Director of Photography J. David Ake stated, “The new mirrorless technology in Sony’s cameras allows for a completely silent operation, meaning our photojournalists can work in environments without interrupting the scene around them.”

Sony will be providing the full-frame mirrorless Alpha cameras, 4K XDCam video cameras, and a variety of 57 E-mount lenses, including the G Master models.

Aside from the Imaging Products, Sony is also working with AP to improve workflow and efficiency of field operations, including 5G capabilities through its Xperia line.
