Google rolls out Meet in Gmail App for Android

Google is integrating its real-time video conferencing software, Meet, into the Gmail Android app.

Part of Google’s new integrated workspace in G Suite, mobile users can now access Meet within the Gmail app. Users can now start a new meeting, join meetings by entering the code or join meetings scheduled in the Google Calendar.

Functionally, this release is similar to Meet in Gmail for browsers. The feature is turned on by default once users update their Gmail apps. To hide the Meet tab inside the Gmail app, go to the Gmail settings, and deselect “Show the Meet Tab for video calling.” under “Meet.”

Additionally, once users update their Gmail app, clicking Meet links from their Android or iOS devices, they’ll be redirected directly to the Gmail app. However, clicking a link on the Meet app will launch the meeting within the app instead.

The new feature will roll out for all users gradually, up to 15 days starting July 20, 2020.
