Gyms, other services to resume on September 1

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has recently shared the resume of operations of other businesses in the service sector, including gyms and personal grooming.

As shared on a briefing today by DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez, fitness centers, sports facilities, testing and tutorial centers, review centers, computer shops, personal care services, pet grooming services, and drive-in cinemas are allowed to reopen tomorrow, September 1, 2020.

This also includes easing of restriction for dine-in options at restaurants with the possibility of increasing the capacity by 50%.

Lopez ensures that the Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases is in close coordination with Metro Manila mayors to ensure smooth operations during the transition to a more open economy under the new normal. Lopez also shares that the IATF members are currently meeting before they give the other finalized recommendations to the President and is also considering extending the period of the general community quarantine from more than 14 days to a month.

Secretary Lopez also said in a PNA report that only 75 percent of businesses have continued their operations as some of the owners chose to temporarily close their stores due to lower demand in the market.

DTI announced the resume of the same services previously in the latter part of July. However, it was postponed when NCR and other neighboring provinces last August 16.

Pres. Duterte is to decide later evening on the latest quarantine classifications of Metro Manila and other areas in his public address in Malacañang.
