Amazfit Neo Hands-on

We’ve checked out plenty of smartwatches and fitness trackers in the past. And plenty of those devices go for a premium look that resembles classic timepieces or modern chronographs. But there’s one device that caught our attention by going the opposite route. The Amazfit Neo is one smartwatch that sports a retro look that reminds us of digital watches from the 90s. Check out our hands-on below.

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Amazfit Neo is the retro yet rugged look, which reminds us of old Casio digital watches. It features a rectangular plastic body and strap and comes in Black, Orange, and Green. The bezel is raised to protect the screen from bumps and scratches.

It sports four physical buttons — two on the left side (On/Select, Backlight On-Off & Back), and two on the right side (Up & Down).

Found underneath are the sensors and pins for charging. It comes with its own charging clamp, which you can connect via USB-A port.

The display is an STN LCD in black and white, just like your ordinary digital watch. This kind of display has great contrast and lets you view what’s on the screen even when the backlight is off. But in dark environments, the bluish backlight will automatically illuminate the screen at the flick of your wrist.

One of the things I like about the Amazfit Neo is how light it is at 32g. So, when you’re working out or simply doing regular tasks, the watch won’t tire your wrist. It’s also water-resistant up to 50 meters, so you can take it for a quick swim.

When it comes to features, the Amazfit Neo has heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring, nap monitoring, BioTracker PPG sensor for real-time workout tracking and sports analyses, and PAI health analysis, which gives you a score of your health state. You can view what feature is being used based on the icon displayed on the screen’s circular area.

If you want to take advantage of its other features, you will have to install the Zepp app and connect to your smartwatch via Bluetooth 5.0. With the app, you can update the firmware, manage notifications, set goals, and check your exercise records and health score. It doesn’t have fancy features like watch faces, but it’s not a big deal.

And that’s the beauty of the Amazfit Neo. It’s a no-frills smartwatch/fitness tracker that does the essentials and doesn’t bombard you with features that you wouldn’t need daily. And since it doesn’t have a lot of fancy features, the 160mAh battery can last you up to 28 days.

Lastly, the price. The Amazfit Neo is affordable at PHP 1,699, available at Digital Walker’s official Shopee page. So, if you want a basic smartwatch with a retro look that doesn’t break the bank, make sure to consider this one.
