The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) allots PHP 7.7 billion for the implementation of its Free Wi-Fi for All project on its proposed 2021 budget.
The project aims to build free Wi-Fi sites in public places, state colleges, and universities nationwide. As DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II shared, the department targets to build 23,100 sites by 2021. 10,300 sites from the total target will be located in public education institutions. Meanwhile, 1,804 should be deployed in SUCs and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) institutions, 5,644 in national and local government offices, 3,300 sites in government hospitals and rural health units, 1,505 sites in open areas such as public parks and plazas, 368 sites in public libraries, and 179 sites in transport terminals.
Currently, the department has deployed and operated a total of 4,248 live sites under the Free Wi-Fi for All Program. 400 of which are installed in government hospitals and rural health units.
