The Atlanta Braves and veteran starter Chris Sale have agreed to a reworked two-year, $38-million contract after being acquired from the Boston Red Sox.
Sale, 34, was due a $27.5 million salary in 2024. Under the new contract, he will get $16 million in 2024 and $22 million in 2025 with a $18 million club option for 2026.
Sale joined the Red Sox in December of 2016 but his career in Boston was disrupted by nine trips to the injured list.
He was 6-5 with a 4.30 ERA in 20 starts and 102.2 innings last season.
Young infielder Vaughn Grissom went from Atlanta to Boston in the trade.
