Shapovalov, Pospisil headline Canada’s roster for Davis Cup Qualifiers

The Canadian team for the Davis Cup Qualifiers has been selected.

Tennis Canada announced Friday that Denis Shapovalov, Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau and Vasek Pospisil will represent Canada at the Davis Cup Qualifiers in Montreal next month.

This will be Shapovalov’s return to active competition in the Davis Cup, after missing last year’s event with a knee injury, although he still mentored the team.

Notably, Montreal native Felix Auger-Aliassime was absent from the selection. The 23-year-old most recently pulled out of action from the 2024 United Cup, and struggled with health in the 2023 season.

Milos Raonic was also not selected, after playing for Canada last year in the Davis Cup Finals.

“It’s been a few years since we’ve played in Canada, so we’re very happy to get the chance again to play at home in front of the best fans in the world,” Team Canada’s captain Frank Dancevic said in a statement. “We played against the Republic of Korea in Valencia in 2022 and they were tough opponents, but our team is more than up to the task, and they’ll be ready to prove once again why Canada is one of the best tennis nations in the world.”

Canada will face off against the Republic of Korea on the weekend of Feb. 2 at IGA Stadium.
