Raonic replaces Shapovalov for Davis Cup qualifier in Montreal

Denis Shapovalov has officially been replaced by Milos Raonic for Canada’s Davis Cup qualifier tilt against the Republic of Korea in Montreal, Team Canada announced on Wednesday morning.

Shapovalov was originally selected to have his return to the Davis Cup Canadian team in 2024, but was announced as a competitor for the Open 13 Tournament in Marseille, France in February, thus making him unavailable.

“Firstly, we’d like to wish Denis all the best in his comeback. He will be missed and is always welcomed to the team for any future ties,” said team captain Frank Dancevic in a press release. “Fortunately, adding Milos and Liam to the team gives us tremendous depth heading into our tie against the Republic of Korea.

“I’ve got full confidence in this group and look forward to playing in front of a home crowd in Montreal.”

Raonic had a dominant performance for Canada last year in the Davis Cup Finals, and will look to do so once again.

Team Canada also announced that Liam Draxl has also joined the roster as a fifth member.

Canada will face off against the Republic of Korea on the weekend of Feb. 2 at IGA Stadium.
