It’s not just the Montero Sport that has new variants in Mitsubishi Motors Philippines’ (MMPC) 2020 lineup: The workhorse versions of the Strada—specifically, the GL variant and the cab-and-chassis (C/C) model—have also been updated.
When the new Strada debuted here in the Philippines, new versions of the two lower-spec variants weren’t introduced along with it just yet. More than a year since then, MMPC has finally added the updated trucks to its roster of offerings.
The new Strada GL (pictured above), aside from finally receiving the corporate styling cues worn by its newer stablemates, now also packs the 2.4-liter MIVEC you get with the new-generation variants in the Strada line. This powertrain makes 179hp and 430Nm of torque, and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
On the other hand, the Strada C/C, despite getting the new Dynamic Shield design update, sees no changes under its hood. It’s still a two-wheel-drive manual variant powered by the 134hp, 324Nm 2.5-liter diesel engine that came with the previous model.
As far as prices go, the two remain much more affordable than the higher Strada variants MMPC currently offers. The C/C model is listed at P815,000, while the GL has a price tag of P1,175,000. If you take a closer look at MMPC’s entire pickup lineup, the GL costs significantly less than the other manual 4WD Strada, which is priced at P1,465,000.
