Here’s another useful tool in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic: a street activity monitoring system.
Barangay San Antonio in Pasig City has now equipped its locale with 64 CCTV cameras with artificial intelligence that helps monitor social distancing, as well as the number of people moving in a certain area. It provides real-time information to the barangay’s command center through a street activity monitoring map, helping the government unit ensure compliance with the enhanced community quarantine.
The people-counter feature enables the map to display how many people are actually moving in a certain area of the barangay, and the parts with zero movement will be marked as green. Barangay captain Thomas Raymond Lising said that the technology will soon include a vehicle-counter feature as well.
“Pagdating ng curfew, automatic dapat lahat ’yan ay green na or naka-notify na siya na no more people are moving out of their homes at wala nang naglalakad pa,” said Lising. “Kung meron man kaming makikita na unnecessary movement, agad-agad ang command center natin ang magdi-dispatch ng ating security personnel para puntahan ang iba’t-ibang lugar na [iyon].”

The system was implemented with the help of Project Greengrass, an initiative launched by ThingsPH along with its partners RxR Capital and Testudo Infosec Inc. It provides the technology to the LGUs to help them strictly implement the enhanced quarantine in their respective communities.
