Maine Mendoza raises almost P600k for PUV drivers, others affected by COVID-19

The public transportation ban due to the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine is hitting PUV drivers hard. Thankfully, there are individuals out there who’ve noticed the predicament of jeepney drivers, tricycle operators, and other public transport workers, and are lending a helping hand.

One of them is actress Maine Mendoza, who has raised almost P600,000 to support PUV drivers, ride-hailing operators, and other sectors of society negatively impacted by the COVID-19 virus.

Mendoza has helped raise a total of P587,667 for 587 families whose livelihoods have been affected by the enhanced quarantine period. This includes families of 103 tricycle riders, 10 pedicab riders, 35 jeepney drivers, 14 motorcycle taxi riders, 16 bus drivers, 10 taxi and UV express drivers, and four barkers.

“Thank you very much for the overwhelming support and kind donations. We were able to help 587 households,” Mendoza said on Facebook. “And I would not make it this far if not because of everyone’s help. But it does not stop here, I shall continue sending financial assistance to as many families as I can.

“With all that’s going on, we need to know how we can contribute to help others in this challenging time.”
