Here in the Philippines, riding motorcycles is fast becoming a family affair. Because of its convenience, cost efficiency, and not to mention the special bonding it can inspire, almost every member of the household wants to have his or her own motorbike so as not to miss out on the fun. So why leave the little one at home when they can have their own ride as well?
The new KTM 50 SX Mini is now available at KTM Philippines’ BGC showroom. It’s an awesome beginner’s dirt bike suited for adventure-seeking kids aged four to 10 years old.
It’s powered by a two-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 49cc engine mated to a single-speed automatic gearbox. This small but very capable engine is mounted on a central tube frame.
Like its full-sized brothers in the SX lineup, the 50 SX Mini inherits KTM’s quality components and modern technology. For one, it’s held up by an XACT 35 upside-down fork and a mono-shock (both made by WP), a setup designed to cushion young riders while on dirt tracks.
KTM engineers have also equipped the 50 SX Mini with a pair of disc brakes at the front and rear for optimum stopping power. Purely designed for young riders, it takes only a small amount of pressure to press the brake levers.
One downside of the 50 SX Mini is its lack of an electric start button. It still relies on the old-school kick-start system which requires small riders to do some leg work. The seat, meanwhile, measures 22in high. The bike weighs only 40kg without fuel, so balancing shouldn’t be an issue.
With a linear power delivery combined with a smooth automatic gearbox, riding the 50 SX Mini is as simple as child’s play, allowing budding motocross riders to just focus on developing their riding skills. But first things first: before you visit the KTM BGC showroom, make sure you have deep pockets, because this mini motocross bike definitely does not come cheap at P227,000. But if the little one has always been good and is consistently diligent with their studies, then why not?
