The government has now rolled out its newest tool against the COVID-19 pandemic: the Department of Public Works and Highway’s (DPWH) nationwide disinfection program along major national highways.
The operation includes more than 200 sanitation tents set up across the country through the efforts of Regional and District Engineering Offices. You can check out the breakdown below:

- Region IV-A – 65
- Region IV-B – 18
- Region V – 16
- Region VI – 18
- Region VII – 15
- Region VIII – 17

- Region XI – 3
- Region XII – 8
- Region XIII – 8
There are also 21 gantry facilities along major routes across the nation, specifically four in Metro Manila, eight in Region I, six in Region II, and three in Region VI. These facilities were installed as an additional means of disinfecting vehicles and controlling the spread of the virus. All DPWH personnel deployed in all these stations are provided with personal protective equipment.

“DPWH Regional and District Engineering Offices nationwide are closely coordinating with national government agencies and local government units to offer our service in any way that we can,” said agency secretary Mark Villar. “Right now, we are beginning to set up sanitation tents and stations to at least minimize the spread of virus.
“This disinfection operation will continue for the whole duration of the enhanced community quarantine, beyond if necessary.”
