SMC announces toll-free passage on major expressways for all healthcare workers

To all our hardworking frontline workers, here is some good news for you: The San Miguel Corporation, as part of its efforts to help in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak, is waiving fees on its tollways for all healthcare workers.

This covers the STAR Tollway, South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, NAIAX, and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

“This is the least we can do to show our appreciation and gratitude for our doctors and nurses who are working under extremely challenging circumstances to save lives,” said SMC president Ramon Ang. “Considering the sacrifices they make on a daily basis, this is a small gesture. But nevertheless, we hope it helps make life a bit easier for them, and remind them that what they do for all of us is deeply appreciated.”

To avail of this toll-free privilege, medical professionals simply need to secure a special RFID sticker from SMC Tollways or they may have their existing Autosweep RFID stickers converted instead. These can be done at the temporary booths set up at the Shell Magallanes gas station and the NAIAX toll plaza, both of which are operational daily from 8am to 7pm. Any professional who plans to apply only needs to bring his or her PRC license card.

“We hope that with this program, our medical frontliners would have one less thing to worry about,” Ang added. The company also said it will soon make these special toll-free RFID stickers available in other locations as well.

This will definitely be of great help for our frontliners putting their lives on the line to battle this pandemic. If you or anyone you know is a licensed medical professional, then take note and spread the word—any kind of help we can give right now will go a long way.
