Report: MMDA GM Jojo Garcia has tested positive for COVID-19

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager Jojo Garcia has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a report by Inquirer.net.

“My work puts me under a lot of risks, and this is part of it,” Garcia reportedly said after announcing he had contracted the virus. “I embrace this challenge with full trust and faith in God that I will overcome the same with your prayers.”

Garcia is now fulfilling his duties while self-quarantined at home.

In a Facebook post shared by MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago following Garcia’s announcement, she said that she was saddened by the news and that they often check on each other’s situation. Pialago is also currently self-quarantined in her home.

“I am saddened that our General Manager tested positive for Covid-19,” she said. Simula nung nag home quarantine kami ni GM halos everyday chini-check namin ang isa’t isa kung kamusta ang pakiramdam.”

“Then this news came out yesterday when we called each other,” she added. “Pagaling ka GM, tibayan lang ang resistensya. MMDA family is praying for you.”

Garcia is the latest government official to test positive for the coronavirus. Other public servants who have contracted COVID-19 include Senator Sonny Angara, Senate Minority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, and, perhaps most notably, Senator Koko Pimentel.
